Community meal to be held on July 8

A community meal will be held at Parkside Community Church in Saukville from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 8.

The summer cookout, provided by Lumen Christi Catholic Church, includes barbecue chicken, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, corn on the cob, watermelon and cookies.

In-person and to-go meals will be available.

The  Ozaukee Food Alliance sponsors the meal.

$5.6M treatment plant project nears completion

A $5.6 million renovation of the Saukville Wastewater Treatment Facility is “nearing completion,” according to Wastewater Utility Supt. Ray Hartmann.

The upgrades bring the plant into compliance with Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources regulations established in 2010 that significantly reduce allowed levels of phosphorous discharged into the Milwaukee River.

Farmers market draws vendors, customers

Village has plenty of fun on tap for Fourth of July

Saukville will celebrate the Fourth of July Tuesday with a full slate of activities beginning with a 1 p.m. parade.

Beginning at Rebels Field, the parade will travel north on South Main Street to Grady Park.

The fun will continue at the park with games and live music. Rabbits Unlimited, an organization working for a cure for multiple sclerosis, will sell food, beer and other drinks.

At 5 p.m., the party moves to Peninsula Park, where music, games and activities will continue until the village’s fireworks show at dusk.

Grant would help pave way for orthodontics facility

The Village of Saukville on Tuesday applied for a $1.3 million Wisconsin Department of Transportation grant for the construction of roads in the recently-approved Northern Gateway Community Collective.

According to the developers agreement between Ansay Development and the village, the costs of developing the infrastructure to support the sprawling residential and commercial subdivision and business park are assumed by Ansay.

Village kicks off summer concert series

County receives grant to target Saukville flooding

Ozaukee County has been awarded a $975,000 federal grant to purchase land to recreate a historic Milwaukee River oxbow along Highway W in the Village of Saukville as part of a road reconstruction project intended to reduce flooding.

The grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Great Lakes Restoration Initiative would be used to acquire four parcels totaling 67.2 acres straddling the highway to permanently reduce chronic flooding in the area and to restore wetlands.

Officials again vote to appoint trustee’s wife to board

For the second time in three weeks, Pamela Duckart has been appointed by the Saukville Village Board to fill a vacant trustee seat.

Ozaukee Press questioned Duckart’s appointment at the board’s May 16 meeting, noting that the meeting’s agenda did not state that an appointment could occur that night. The village then noticed the matter on this week’s agenda.

“Under Wisconsin law (the appointment) did not follow public notice,” Brad Hoeft, village attorney, said. “It should be considered invalid.”
