Community meal to be served on Saturday

A community meal will be held at Parkside Community Church in Saukville from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5.

The  meal, provided by Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedarburg, includes brats, beans, watermelon and ice cream.

In-person and to-go meals will be available.

The  Ozaukee Food Alliance sponsors the meal.

Hard at work turning gas station into food pantry

The Ozaukee Food Alliance is hard at work transforming a former gas station into its new home and raising the last of the funds needed to pay for the renovations.

From the outside, the former Tri-Par headquarters building on Green Bay Avenue at South Main Street hasn’t changed too much.

Rebels without a team

What has become a youth gridiron institution in Saukville won’t field a team this fall for the first time since 1961 and is at risk of being lost forever.

The Rebels football program didn’t attract enough players to field a team this year.

Saukville Rebels President Kevin Thate had 18 players last year on a combined seventh and eighth-grade squad, but despite last-ditch efforts only six players signed up this year.

“We’ve been seeing it for years. The numbers have been dwindling. It was just a matter of time before we ran out of kids to play,” he said.

Ansay set to launch first phase of Gateway project

It’s full steam ahead for Saukville’s Northern Gateway Community Collective, which is expected to include 620 housing units, a hotel and plaza.

The Village Board last week approved  a plat for the 99-acre property between I-43 and Northwoods Road.

“Basically, it allows us to create individual parcels we will be able to build on in the future,” Ian McCain, design construction manager for Ansay Development, said.

Checking out snakes at the library

You can of course find plenty of books at the Oscar Grady Library in Saukville, but last week there were also several snakes there, like the boa constrictor wrapped around 7-year-old Addelay Tanner, during a “Snake Discovery: Snake Rattle and Roll” program presented by Snake Discovery.

Man accused of reaching 143 mph, hitting cars during chase

A 23-year-old man has been charged in Ozaukee County Circuit Court with leading authorities on a Fourth of July high-speed chase during which he reached an estimated 146 mph on I-43, hit two cars while driving the wrong way on Highway 33 in Saukville and crashed his vehicle twice before being arrested.

Germantown resident Jared A. Brock, who after he drove his 2010 Infinity G37 sedan into a ditch tried to run away from officers and was tased, faces nine charges related to the chase and the fentanyl, cocaine and marijuana found in the vehicle.

One step closer to a Saukville-Grafton Fire Department

The Grafton and Saukville fire departments are inching closer to becoming the Grafton-Saukville Fire Department after a resolution approved by the Saukville Village Board on Tuesday brings the neighboring towns in on the process of consolidation.

“The resolution is very similar to what was already approved by the villages, but now the towns (of Grafton and Saukville) are involved,” Grafton Assistant Fire Chief Mathew Karpinski said, referencing a four-year effort toward consolidation.

A chance to meet a Brewer from right next door

Members of a Saukville youth baseball team and its coach took advantage of the opportunity to meet Milwaukee Brewers player and Ozaukee High School graduate Owen Miller during an event at the Fredonia branch of Port Washington State Bank last week. The Backyard Bash for Owen Miller event raised $2,344, and the bank matched that to contribute $4,688 to the Northern Ozaukee School District in Fredonia for its playground project.  Photo by Sam Arendt

Library to host Rockin’ with Leonardo concert

The Parents’ Choice Award-winning musician Leonardo will bring his “Rockin’ with Leonardo: All Together Now” show to the Oscar Grady Library in Saukville on Saturday, Aug. 5.

The Chicago musician with his signature orange guitar will perform a humorous, high-energy concert that entertains, educates and empowers young rockers from noon to 1 p.m.

He will perform familiar hits and original tunes.

The event will be held outdoors at the library unless it has to be moved indoors because of inclement weather.

The Oscar Grady Library is at 151 S. Main St.

Bonfire Thursdays to benefit Mel’s Charities

July 12, 2023

Bonfire Thursdays are set to continue this week at the Riverview Inn in Saukville. 

Festivities will run from 4 to 8 p.m. S’more kits, pizza pudgie pie kits, hot dog kits and beverages will all be available for purchase at the event. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Mel’s Charities. No carry-ins are allowed.
