Girl Scout cookie orders are being taken now

Area Girl Scouts are taking orders for Girl Scout cookies, selling them door-to-door, at booths and online.

In addition to the classic cookies, Girl Scouts will sell Raspberry Rally, which is a thin, crispy cookie infused with raspberry flavor and dipped in chocolate. However, this cookie is only available for online direct shipment and can be orderd from a girl or troop’s  digital cookie website from Feb. 27 to March 19.

Classic cookie favorites may be purchased at cookie booths through March 19.

Grafton student on Aurora U. dean’s list

Zachary Klug of Grafton has been named to the fall dean’s list at Aurora University in Illinois.

Klug is majoring in health science.

Model railroad show to be held March 12

The Metro Model Railroad Club will hold its annual show and swap meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 12, at a new location — the Ozaukee Pavilion at the Ozaukee County fairgrounds in Cedarburg.

This is only the first move in a series for the show. It has traditionally been held at Circle B Recreation Center, but the pending sale of the business prompted this year’s change. Next year, it will be held in the Expo Center at the fairgrounds, which is a much larger facility.

Garden planning seminar held March 10

“Growing Green: A Garden Planning Panel” will be held at Riveredge Nature Center in the Town of Saukville from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 10.

The session is intended to provide information on how gardeners can make their garden not just grow but thrive, whether the garden is intended to provide produce, attract native pollinators or provide a splash of color.

  A panel of seasoned gardeners will discuss general gardening tips and tricks as well as answer questions.

The session is intended for people ages 14 and older.

Class to teach how to make buttons

“Buttons and Beyond!” will be taught at the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 11.

Finding the right button to finish a piece, be it a purse, blouse or sweater, is often a challenge, but polymer clay can be used to craft that perfect piece.

The course will be taught by Lynne Bergschultz, an illustrator, designer and educator with a passion for polymer clay.

Breakfast with the Easter Bunny

The Easter Bunny is inviting everyone to Project Bunny, an Easter event to be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 18, at Circle B Recreation Center in the Town of Cedarburg. Light refreshments will be served, and those attending will have the chance to visit with the Easter Bunny, participate in a holiday activity and receive a treat bag. The event, sponsored by Ozaukee County 4-H, is free and intended for children ages 10 and younger.

Shipwreck sanctuary to meet March 16

The Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council will meet for the first time on Thursday, March 16, even as the group is seeking applications for six vacant alternate seats on the council.

The meeting will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc.

The council will discuss the Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary and the purpose and process of the advisory council.

Decade dance will be held March 11 in Port

A decade dance will be held by the Van Ells-Schanen American Legion Post 82 and its Auxiliary on Saturday, March 11.

The event will be at the Legion Hall, 435 N. Lake St., Port Washington.

The dance will run from 6 to 10 p.m., and those attending are invited to dress in costumes to reflect their favorite decade, from the flappers of the 1920s to disco dancers of the 1970s.

Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes.

Food and libations that reflect the decades will be served.

A silent auction will be held from 5 to 9 p.m.

Brunch event to raise scholarship funds

The Ozaukee County League of Women Voters will hold its annual spring brunch and scholarship fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 25.

The event will be at Shully’s, 146 Green Bay Rd., Thiensville.

Keynote speaker Craig Gilbert, the recently retired Washington Bureau chief and national political analyst for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, will discuss “Wisconsin in 3D: Demographics, Districting and Democracy.”

Tickets are $50 and may be purchased at www.lvozaukee.org.

A little tough love hopefully will yield a monster of a tree
