Class to teach how to make buttons

“Buttons and Beyond!” will be taught at the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 11.

Finding the right button to finish a piece, be it a purse, blouse or sweater, is often a challenge, but polymer clay can be used to craft that perfect piece.

The course will be taught by Lynne Bergschultz, an illustrator, designer and educator with a passion for polymer clay.

Bergschultz started out making a piece for a friend, and that led to the production of countless unique buttons, shawl pins and jewelry pieces. Her work has been published in national craft magazines and sold in galleries, shops and at fiber events.

Those attending will be introduced to classic techniques such as cane building, mokume gane and color blending. The focus will be buttons, but, as time permits, bead making may also be introduced.

Participants are strongly encouraged to bring any project, materials or work in progress needing adornment.

The museum at N50 W5050 Portland Rd. is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
