Flannels and trivia on tap for Port

Downtown Port Washington will be awash in flannel Saturday during the second Flannel Fest Beer and Trivia Walk from 3 to 7 p.m.

The event, sponsored by Port Main Street Inc., is intended to draw people to downtown in the doldrums of winter, and Main Street Executive Director Kristina Tadeo said it seems to be working.

More than 100 people have registered for the event, which can accommodate 200 people, she said.

“It hits a different demographic,” Tadeo said. “It lends itself more to 20 and 30-somethings.

“I think it will be a fun way to get new eyes on Port Washington by people who wouldn’t typically think to come here, and hopefully some of them return.”

Flannel Fest, which was not held last year, was first held in 2020, just before the pandemic shut down group activities throughout the country, Tadeo noted.

During the event, individuals and teams will travel between 16 downtown businesses where they will sample craft beers and receive a trivia question.

There will also be special popcorn pairings at seven of the stops, courtesy of Broadway Popcorn.

They can answer the questions digitally, where there will be a live leaderboard, or on paper.

Participants will also receive a raffle ticket, and they may buy more tickets at the event registration table, Tadeo said.

Those attending are encouraged to wear flannel and can partake in a flapjack toss at Inventors Brewpub and pose for photos at a special backdrop at Sherper’s.

“The whole look and feel of it is lumberjacks and flannel,” Tadeo said.

If needed, there will be a tiebreaker at the end of the event at Inventors Brewpub, Tadeo said.

The trivia contest winner will receive a special trophy that looks like a glass of beer with a flannel koozie.

Advance registration may be done at Sir James Pub or online at downtownport.com, while registration at the event will be at Engine Room 102 at the corner of Pier and Wisconsin streets.

The cost is $30 per person or $25 per person for teams of six or more people. Designated drivers may register for $15, with their tickets good for everything but the beer.
