LETTER: I-43 widening good, but Port Rd. also needs safety fixes

While improving and widening interstate I-43 is great, and I think most can agree has been much needed since at least the 1980s, I think more needs to be done. There are a few more improvements that  need to be made.

Port Washington Road needs to be four lanes with turn lanes from the Costco area down to Mequon. The current half-turn lanes are more dangerous than not having them.

A traffic light needs to be installed at Falls Road and Port Washington Road. This intersection is dangerous, and if you are looking to go straight or make a left turn from eastbound or westbound Falls Road, it will take a while.

A traffic light also needs to be installed at Lakefield Road and Port Washington Road. This intersection is dangerous, and it takes a while to go straight across or make a left turn.

I don’t know if any official person has ever looked at this, but with the projected growth and Port Road being the backup for mainline I-43, more must be done to make it safer.
