LETTER: Education went on as recall team whined, stomped feet

To Ozaukee Press:

“The Future of Work” report by McKinsey & Company outlines critical skills that successful people will need moving forward. At the top of the list are empathy, inclusiveness, motivating different personalities, resolving conflicts, collaboration and logical reasoning.

As a parent, former high school teacher and now someone working in the medical tech industry, I have seen Mequon-Thiensville School District leaders and teachers model these critical skills beautifully over the last year and a half.

The fact that our kids were able to attend school in person last year without any major medical events was stunning.

The leadership followed the science and the recommendations of professional medical experts to implement a system that kept our kids and their families as safe as could be expected anywhere in the country.

Meanwhile, the teachers used creativity, tech wizardry, their sense of humor and compassion to make sure all kids were included.

On the other hand, the recall team trying to remove School Board members from office stood on the side of the road, stomping their feet, whining about wearing masks, carrying on with false claims about diversity and equity efforts in the district and creating division instead of working with district professionals to solve problems in an adult way.

End the drama by keeping Erik Hollander, Akram Khan, Chris Schultz and Wendy Francour on the board. Let’s focus on serving our kids, not politics.
