Kicking up dirt

About 500 people turned out to watch 120 racers compete for cash prizes in the biannual Grass Drags races at the Fillmore Sportsman’s Club in Fredonia June 19. The Ozaukee Guzzlers MC have been organizing the event for 28 years, adding mini bike and side-by-side races to this year’s lineup. Winner of the fastest machine race this year was Jason Heinecke of Hartford, who reached 85 mph in just 100 yards. In the top photo, racers peeled out of the starting gate, stirring up a cloud of dust. Far left, Mike Kirmse rode a mini bike around the race grounds. Near left, an ATV rider pulled ahead in a 100-yard race. Lower left, Arnie Heller (right) and Shawn Steffen worked on a motorbike. Below, racing fans waited for the next Grass Drags lineup.
