Still no skating at Milwaukee River rink

The skating rink at Veterans Memorial Park in Grafton has been closed all winter even though there have been sub-zero temperatures the past few weeks. Village Parks and Recreation Director Megan Phalin said the ice is not safe for use because there is a significant layer of slush between the snow and ice. The village requires ice to be eight inches thick to skate safely; however, the ice needs to be 12 inches thick for public works crews to safely clear the area. Although residents may be eager to get out and skate, Phalin said, the main focus for the public works staff is removing snow throughout the village. Photo by Sam Arendt
