Ozaukee boys make it six straight

A double-double by Braxton Gahan against host Hilbert last Friday helped the Ozaukee High School boys’ basketball team win its sixth game in a row.

The Warriors routed their opponent, 70-37.

Gahan pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds and scored 12 points.

“Braxton Gahan had a monster game rebounding and scoring in the post,” coach Bob Domach said.

“Braxton works hard every day in practice, and it is great that he is improving every day and seeing the results from his hard work.”

The first half was close, and Ozaukee held a nine-point lead at the break, 29-20. In the second half, the Warriors offense got hot and ran away with the game.

“We struggled out of the gate, especially on the defensive end.  In the second half, we came out in a zone and Hilbert wasn’t ready for it,” Domach said.

Noah Miller led all scorers with 24 points. Simon Bares added 13 points and Bret Hamm grabbed eight rebounds.

Hilbert leaders included Isaac Hoerning with 11 points, Dylan Dohr with eight and Matt Schneider with seven.

On Jan. 19, the Warriors earned its first lopsided Big East Conference victory of the week over visiting Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah, 62-40.

“Simon Bares and Noah Miller carried us on both ends of the court. Simon is doing a great job being our defensive stopper, and both are so solid on offense. On top of that, they both are providing tremendous leadership within the program,” Domach said.

The Warriors more than doubled Elkhart Lake’s first half total and led, 31-15.

Miller had 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Bares scored 15 points. Gahan tallied eight points and seven rebounds.

Matt Miller and Hamm each scored six points.

Leaders for the Resorters included Kean O’Neil with 15 points and Jacob Ganga with 13 points.

Ozaukee improved to 9-5 overall.

The Warriors’ home game on Tuesday against rival Cedar Grove-Belgium was postponed due to snow.

On Thursday, Ozaukee will host Sheboygan Lutheran (12-0 in the Big East). On Tuesday, Feb. 2, the Warriors will travel to Kohler (6-6).
