Preparing to defend his title

Robert Meredith, owner of Yummy Bones in downtown Port Washington, prepared last week to defend his title in the fifth annual Port Chili Bowl, which will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31.  This year, the Chili Bowl will be a drive-through event with ticket-holders picking up samples of six chilies made by Port Washington eateries instead of stopping at each restaurant to dine. Diners then vote for their favorite. Meredith won the Chili Bowl trophy twice, in 2020 and 2018. Tickets for the event are $20 and may be purchased at the participating eateries — Yummy Bones, Tello’s Cafe and Grille, Java Dock, Beanies, Smith Bros. Coffee House and Inventor’s Brew Pub. Each ticket also serves as an entry into a drawing for a Basket of Port Washington-Saukville valued at more than $700. The Chili Bowl is organized by the Greater Port Washington Kiwanis Club.
