Trucks spilling loads on town roads
Belgium Town Chairman Tom Winker said he will talk to Lakeside Foods and its carrier again about foodstuffs falling out of trucks and dirtying town roads.
Winker got onto the topic at last week’s Town Board meeting after resident Donny Feyereisen, during a discussion on town roads, asked, “Notice that some roads are getting a little red?”
Winker said he already voiced his concerns with the carrier this year, and a resident on Six Mile Road sent him a letter complaining about the same issue.
“After the season I will go talk to them. It’s totally unacceptable,” Winker said.
Winker said he already shared with the carrier his personal experience with trucks spilling their loads onto roadways.
“I told him I understand things happen. I had a farm. We hauled liquid manure down the road for 25 years. I understand that happens. But it can’t happen on a daily basis, and it’s happening way too often,” he said.
Supr. Bill Janeshek said the first day Lakeside started hauling beets he noticed spills on Cedar Beach Road and approached the company.
“Here’s the deal. You just started. Fix it before people start calling,” he said, adding the last two weeks “it was terrible.”
Janeshek said he was told the trucks are being filled so high with water that when they go up a hill the water falls over the top of the vehicles.
Winker said he would provide an update at the December board meeting.
“It’s unaccpetable. I don’t know how else to say it,” he said.
