Town budget public hearing set

Town of Belgium residents will be asked to approve a nearly flat budget and roads fund at a 7 p.m. public hearing on Monday, Nov. 9.

The projected 2021 budget is $648,295 with a local tax levy of $464,040. That’s an increase of $2,500 — about half a percent — more than this year’s levy.

Road expenditures of $383,893 are also up for approval. That is $4,300, or 1.1%, more than in the 2020 budget.

The town will pay the Belgium Fire Department nearly $82,000 for fire protection, an increase of $2,000, or 2.5%, from this year.

The Town Board may adopt the budget at its meeting that will immediately follow the public hearing. The hearing and meeting are at Town Hall, 171 Main St. 

The meeting was moved from Nov. 2 to Nov. 9 because the Town Hall is set up for the Nov. 3 election.
