CG-Belgium students going back to school

After the coronavirus recently kept as many as 80 students home from Cedar Grove-Belgium schools, most are returning this week.

Supt. Chad Brakke said a few groups are coming back to school after quarantining, and the school may be back to nearly full enrollment by Friday.

A couple of staff members who are working online are expected back next week, he said.

Six cases of the coronavirus caused contact tracing to reach about 80 students, which is about 8% of the school district.

The virus, Brakke said, did not spread at school. The district does two temperature checks per day and follows other protocols to slow the spread of germs.

“It’s been events in the community or after-school activities,” Brakke said in a video on the district’s website.

Due to the increased workload of contact tracing, the School Board approved hiring a part-time nurse to work 28 hours per week.

The regular district nurse works eight hours per day on Wednesdays.
