Swimmers choose their own adventures

It was pick-your-event night for the Port Washington High School girls’ swim team Oct. 6 against the West Bend Co-op.

“Some of the girls chose their events; others left it up to the coaches. 

Most of the girls tried a stroke or distance they haven’t done before,” co-coach Danielle Peiffer said.

She said the girls were a little sluggish and the relays were slow.

“I think they had trouble finding motivation after the win from the previous week,” Peiffer said.

West Bend won, 140 to 46.

Sophomore Abbey Lotz won the only swimming event for the Pirates, taking first in the 50-yard freestyle in 28.29 seconds.

Sophomore Stephanie Schlessinger won diving by less than one point, scoring 172.2 points.

The 200 freestyle relay of Emma Huber, Josie Tetzlaff, Maddi Klein and Lotz was second in 1 minute, 54.95 seconds.

Huber was third in the 100 freestyle in 1:03.82.

The 200 medley relay of Brynn Nelson, Huber, Tetzlaff and Erin Grisar was third in 2:21.95, and the 400 freestyle relay of Grisar, Klein, Audyn Setzer and Lotz was third in 4:27.14.

“We emphasized effort over outcome and had them focus on doing their best. They did a great job trying something out of their comfort zone,” Peiffer said.

Port was to swim at Hartford on Tuesday and will host Homestead on Tuesday, Oct. 20.
