LETTER: Stroebel and Brooks should legislate rather than obstruct

To Ozaukee Press:

Once again, I am disappointed and frustrated with the actions (or, rather, inaction) of my Republican legislators during this month’s special session, but more so with their continued obstruction.

Besides a tenuous grasp on power (and the satisfaction of owning the libs), I
fail to see what Sen. Duey Stroebel, Rep. Rob Brooks and other Republican leaders think they are gaining by stripping away the governor’s powers in a lame-duck session, firing one of his cabinet members, refusing to vote or even debate in a special session, and finally wasting valuable legislative time squabbling over what to call a tree.

Whose lives are they improving? Whose needs are they meeting? What challenges are they solving? Which constituent concerns are they addressing? How does this obstruction help anyone statewide or even in their district? Is it any wonder people have lost faith in government?

To my legislators, I say this: Please stop obstructing. Please work with your opponents to craft legislation that a majority of your constituents can support. Please focus less on scoring points for your side and more on doing what you were elected to do: govern.
