Town Board appoints Kien as new clerk

The Grafton Town Board appointed Lisa Kien as the new town clerk last week.

“I’m learning a lot,” Kien said. “I’ve always been intrigued by local government.”

Kien’s job experience involved corporate management for ARI Network Services in Milwaukee, where she was a team leader in accounts receivable for five years. Prior to that, she worked as a credit analyst for Actuant Electrical. 

While Kien doesn’t have much experience in local government, she said she has a strong town staff to show her the ropes and is a quick learner.

Kien has lived in Port Washington since 1991 and previously worked at the Pick ’n Save in Grafton when she was raising her three children. 

Former Town Clerk Amanda Schaefer stepped down at the end of June, citing family commitments.

Schaefer was clerk for seven years while also serving as town planner. She was involved with the town for 13 years, first working for Stantec, an engineering consulting firm in Mequon.

Schaefer was appointed clerk in 2012. 

Town Chairman Lester Bartel said the town will outsource its planner position to Stantec, where Schaefer will be working part time.

Kien was appointed to a two-year term. The full-time position pays $50,000 annually.
