The Village Board last week unanimously approved submitting an application to be a Tree City USA next year.
Earning such a title requires municipalities to plant a tree during Arbor Day observations and spend at least $2 per resident on forestry care, which translates to $4,500 for Belgium. Officials determined the village spends enough to qualify.
The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Committee recommended the application to the board.
