LETTER: Politics aside, Ozaukee Dems campaigning for the needy

To Ozaukee Press:

During this time of voting and seeing political signs everywhere, I wanted to let people know that for years the Ozaukee Democratic Party has also collected goods and donated money each quarter to help our county’s nonprofits meet our residents’ growing needs. We believe we have a responsibility to help make life better for everyone in every way we can.

As co-chair of the Community Outreach Committee, I can report that in just the past two years Ozaukee Democrats have donated to Family Sharing, Ozaukee Food Alliance, Port Washington Food Pantry, St. Vincent de Paul, Ozaukee Literacy Program, Ozaukee Advocates and Mr. Bob’s Under the Bridge. We have donated to Milwaukee’s Macanon Brown Homeless Shelter, Spreading Baskets of Hope, Port Pride and the Disabled Veteran’s Fishing Outing.

Beyond pounds of canned goods, we have donated diapers, baby wipes, books, school supplies, toilet paper, women’s hygiene products, spices, paper towels, Christmas gifts for children, winter coats, hats, mittens and supplies to make Thanksgiving meals.

Our members have tied on aprons and served hot meals we prepared at Ozaukee Food Alliance, and we have adopted three miles of Highway 60 to pick up trash three times a year.

If you need help, reach out to the organizations mentioned above and other charitable nonprofits, and if you can, please support them with cash and the items their websites say they need. Sadly, the need is escalating as the cost of food, gas, housing, and healthcare continues to rise while wages remain stagnant for hard-working Americans and retirees struggling to meet their needs.
