Grace Konzak and Gracie Schmidt

Just like old times for former Rockets

Wisconsin Lutheran College’s soccer got taste of Cedar Grove-Belgium nostalgia in a 2-0 win at Ripon on Sept. 3.

Sophomore Grace Konzak, who is fourth all-time in girls’ assists in high school, scored a college assist on a free kick when she passed to her former teammate, freshman Gracie Schmidt.

“I was about 45 yards out from the goal, and Gracie was around the top of the box. The ball I played went right over the line of players on Gracie’s side, and she tapped it in,” Konzak said.

“It definitely felt like old times for both of us.”

Schmidt, who has been playing with a brace on her arm from a partial ulnar collateral ligament tear, said, “Grace played a wonderful ball, as always, and I was just there to tap it in.”

Wisconsin Lutheran was 5-0 through Sept. 19.

Faust runs to team win

Callie Faust, Grafton High School’s fastest cross country runner in program history, helped Coastal Carolina win the Chanticleer Challenge in Conway, S.C., last Friday.

Faust finished the 5-kilometer course in 18 minutes, 16.97 seconds, good for fifth of 35 runners and third-fastest on her team.

Coastal Carolina had 18 points, well ahead of North Carolina-Wilmington’s 52.

Faust finished 63rd of 146 runners in her first race for Coastal Carolina on Sept. 4. She ran the 4,000-meter course in Elon, N.C., in 15:56. She was seventh of the team’s pack, which had seven runners finishing within half a second of each other.
