Northern Gateway street honors leader of Mel’s Charities

Standing amid the houses being constructed in the Paape Family Farms subdivision in Saukville’s Northern Gateway development on Thursday, Sept. 10, Tom “Mel” Stanton (right), executive director of Mel’s Charities, spoke to people gathered for the dedication of the road they were standing on as Stanton Way in honor of the work done by Stanton and the organization he leads, which has given more than $3.1 million to local causes since 1999. The dedication was part of the Paape Family Farms open house and block party hosted by Ansay Development Corp., the Port Washington company developing the Northern Gateway. Paape Family Farms is on the northern part of the development west of Northwoods Road on Saukville’s east side along with The Daniels Apartments, Anita’s Gardens senior living and an American Orthodontics facility. Loyal’s Landing Townhomes are planned for that area as well. Mel’s Charities is also involved in the Gateway project, and the southern half of the development, known as Mel’s Village, currently includes Gateway Sports Academy and Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin. Also planned for that area is a hotel, Mel’s Apartments, restaurants, retail businesses and a public green space.        Photo by Sam Arendt
