Ukraine war medic to speak on Sept. 21

Ted Barrett, a veteran who joined the medical teams treating soldiers in the early months of the war in Ukraine, will be the speaker for the Monday, Sept. 21, program hosted by the Metropolitan Milwaukee Military Historians.

The session will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Rose-Harms American Legion Hall in Grafton.

Barrett, who hails from the Milwaukee area, served as a U.S. Army combat duty medic for five years, including time in Iraq.

In 2022, he traveled to Ukraine during the first months of the war with Russia and joined with civilian medical teams treating those wounded and dying.

When Russian soldiers targeted and spotted him as they moved in to eliminate this hated “mercenary,” he took up arms and prevailed against them.

Barrett’s talk will be held over two months, with the second session held on Oct 19.

The $25 cost includes a buffet dinner and the presentation. A limited number of tickets are available for just  the program, which begins at 7 p.m., for $10.

Doors to the hall at 1540 13th Ave. open at 5:15 pm.

Reservations are required by 11 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, and may be made by calling Ken Grigas at (262) 284-1090 or emailing rsvp@mkemh.org.
