Jay Road railroad crossing work to commence

Some Town of Belgium residents looking to drop off garbage and recycling from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16,  may need to take a detour.

Work on the Jay Road railroad crossing is scheduled to start on Monday, Sept. 14.

People will not be able to cross the tracks to access the town’s transfer site from the east. They may only come from the west, Town Chairman Tom Winker said.

Union Pacific Railroad will be replacing the track bed and paying for the project.

The railroad crossing signs, however, need to be replaced. Town Supr. Bill Janeshek said he will contact the Ozaukee County Highway Department to have that work done.

Union Pacific completed work on the Cedar Beach Road crossing earlier this month.
