LETTER: Bring back speed traps to rein in menacing speeders on I-43

I regularly drive on I-43 to get to my work. It’s not unusual to have cars passing me at very dangerous speeds of 80-90 mph and over 100, weaving in and out of lanes. I never see monitoring of speeding. It seems that highway law enforcement in Ozaukee and Milwaukee County don’t care about normal everyday speeders unless drivers are detected as being wanted for some offense, which flags the urgency of their capture.

The highways have become lawless passageways for anyone wanting to get somewhere fast, ignoring the risk of harming others. When I’ve written emails to the Milwaukee Sheriff’s Office and people in Ozaukee government, I get no reply.

What will it take to slow down these Indy 500 drivers? I remember in past years, there were police departments setting up speed traps to catch large numbers of speeders on our highways.  I haven’t heard of this happening in recent years. Has it been found unconstitutional?  Perhaps we need to return to that to stop these unprincipled individuals.
