Saukville library to host makers fair on Aug. 11

Children and teenagers ages 7 to 17 have until Saturday, Aug. 1, to sign up to be one of 18 vendors at the second annual Makers Fair at the Oscar Grady Library in Saukville.

Registration can be done on the events calendar page of the library’s website, www.oscargradylibrary.org.

The fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, and feature arts, crafts and baked goods. All sales are cash and shoppers are asked to bring small bills since items are $5 or less.

The library also has other events planned for August, and for adults and teenagers those include an Oscar Grady Weekly Walk at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3.

A library staff member will meet participants on the library patio and lead them on a one-mile, two-hour walk through the neighborhood. The walks, which offer opportunities not just for exercise but also socialization, will be held rain or shine.

A Learn-to-Diamond Paint program will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3.

Participants will make plant-themed magnets, but instead of using paint they will use a simple tool to place small resin “diamonds” onto a sticky surface to create a sparking design. All supplies are provided.

The Library Board will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11. The meeting is open to the public.

The Fiber Arts Group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, to work on individual projects in a group environment. Participants should bring their own projects to work on. There is no instructor, but the group offers an opportunity to share ideas, tips and inspiration.

The Afternoon Fiber Arts Group will meet at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21. Like the evening version of this program, participants work on individual projects they bring with them in a group environment.

The library has a number of book clubs for adults, including the Morning Fiction Book Club, which will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, to discuss “The Book Club for Troublesome Women” by Marie Bostwick.

The Evening Nonfiction Book Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, to discuss “The Bookshop: A History of the American Bookstore” by Evan Friss.

The Love and Lore Book Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, to discuss “Swordheart” by T. Kingfisher.

This patron-hosted group is for fans of fantasy and romance books looking for conversation, connections and captivating reads.

The Page-to-Screen Book Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, to explore the darker side of Oz with Gregory Maguire’s novel “Wicked!”

The club will dive into the intricate, political and adult world that inspired one of Broadway’s most famous musicals and, most recently, a two-part blockbuster film series.

For teenagers, the Plant a Seed, Read Teen Book Club will meet at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, to discuss “A Game Most Foul” by Alison Gervais.

All the books discussed by clubs are available for checkout at the library.

Events for children include a meeting of the Summer LEGO Club at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5.

The club gives children in kindergarten through fifth grade the opportunity to use the library’s blocks to make creations that may be displayed at the library for all to see.

A Summer Outdoor Storytime will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4.

There will be stories, rhymes, songs and dancing on the library lawn, and after storytime, children can get creative with sidewalk chalk. The event will be moved inside if it rains.

The library will host a toddler and preschool dance party at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25.

Youngsters will dance with Miss Julie during this high-energy, interactive music-and-movement program designed for children ages 1 to 5 and their caregivers.

The Oscar Grady Library is at 151 S. Main St.
