Helping out at Harrington

HARRINGTON BEACH STATE PARK in the Town of Belgium held Work Play Earth Day on Saturday. People were invited to volunteer their time helping to plant trees and wildflower seeds, clean the beach and do trail maintenance, brush removal and general cleaning around the park. Above, Jason and Carson Krentz packed soil around a newly planted tree and (left) Rob Scholl slid a seedling into its new home. In other park news, the Northern Cross Science Foundation is scheduled to hold observatory viewings at the Jim and Gwen Plunkett Observatory near Puckett’s Pond at 8 p.m. Friday, May 22, and Saturday, May 23, and at 9 p.m. Friday, June 19, and Saturday, June 20. During the weekend of June 7 and 8, admission to the park is free, part of the Department of Natural Resources’ statewide free weekend program. Photos by Sam Arendt
