The Cedar Grove-Belgium High School wrestling team is starting to like competing at tourist hotspots.

The Rockets on Saturday won the Wisconsin Dells Invite with 216 points, well ahead of second-place St. Charles of Minnesota’s 138.5.

Carsen Voskuil at 138 pounds, Chase Heimerman at 113 and Seth Race at 175 each took first place.

Voskuil pinned his opponents in 1 minute, 39 seconds, 1:31 and in the finals in 1:25.

Voskuil eclipsed the 150-career win mark last month.

“Carsen is looking really good. I think he’s ready for the postseason,” coach Quinn Hoopman said.

Heimerman won a 17-0 technical fall in 1:44, a 57-second pin and in the finals a 12-2 major decision.

Race won a 16-1 technical fall in 2:37, a 1:19 pin and in the finals a 16-5 major decision.

“He had tougher opponents he ended up running the score up against. That was good to see,” Hoopman said.

Landon Heimerman was second at 120 pounds, losing in the finals in a 17-2 technical fall in 5:43.

Brayden Prom was second at 165 pounds, losing an 18-2 technical fall in 4:49 in the finals.

Vince Knowles got third at 144 pounds. Nolan Anzia was third at 150, and Syrus Anderson was third at 190.

The Rockets had four fourths: Ben Duwell at 126, Seth Kessen at 132, Josh Anzia at 215 and Vadim Misiura at 285.

Josh Egan was sixth at 157 pounds.

It’s the second time this year that the Rockets fared well in a vacation spot.

The Rockets wrestled hard last month in a tournament in Bradenton, Fla., where Race was named the most outstanding wrestler.

That and the Mid-States Wrestling Classic in Whitewater are the only two tournaments the Rockets haven’t won this season.

They’ve won all their conference dual meets and are the favorites to take the Big East Conference title.

The team still has the right attitude, Hoopman said.

“They’ve done a really good job. They keep coming back in the room motivated. You can kinda feel that energy,” he said.

Cedar Grove-Belgium hosts the conference meet on Friday, Feb. 6. They also host the sectional on Saturday, Feb. 14, and the team sectionals on Saturday, Feb. 21.

“We’re excited. We expect to get to team state as long as everyone can stay healthy,” Hoopman said.

The team

s eight seniors had a taste of team state as freshmen and have said they want to go back.
