The Port Washington High School boys’ swim team may have state medalist and multiple school-record holder Charlie Prince, but Grafton has some depth, and the Black Hawks rode that to a 107.5-72.5 win at Port on Jan. 27.

That means the coveted traveling trophy, the Schooner, stays in Grafton.

The Black Hawks won seven events to Port’s five, and Grafton had eight second-places to rack up points.

The Hawks’ 200-yard freestyle relay of Aiden Werdin, Jacob Butler, Matt Ciche and Sam Jacoby won in 1 minute, 38.53 seconds.

The 400 freestyle relay of Werdin, Connor Thyes, Butler and Jacoby won in 3:42.38.

Jacoby won the 100 backstroke in 1:02.63. Butler won the 100 freestyle in 52.54 seconds, and Thyes won the 500 freestyle in 5:57.35. Werdin won the 200 freestyle in 1:56.33.

Caleb Butler won diving with 241.6 points.

Port’s 200 medley relay of Noah Blavat, Prince, Nathan Nisiewicz and Caden Hafele won in 1:51.44. Hafele won the 50 freestyle in 24.15 seconds, and Nisiewicz won the 100 butterfly in 1:06.38.

Prince won the 200 individual medley in 2:08.25 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.95.

It’s the first time in several meets that Prince didn’t break a school or pool record. Coach Brittany Roecker said he was getting over an illness.

Grafton’s seconds were: 200 medley relay of Thyes, Vyshanth Selvakumar, Shambav Ashwinkumar and Ciche, 2:00.81; Jacoby, 200 individual medley, 2:20.26; Ashwinkumar, diving, 213.36 points; Jacob Butler, 50 freestyle, 24.22; Selvakumar, 100 butterfly, 1:10.55; Werdin, 100 freestyle, 53.95; Thyes, 100 backstroke, 1:05.67; and Cole Burgos, 100 breaststroke, 1:17.34.

Port got four seconds: Ian Brown, 200 freestyle, 2:09.83; Blavat, 500 freestyle, 6:10.77; the 200 freestyle relay of Brown, Colton Pease, Caleb Winker and Nisiewicz, 1:47.72; and the 400 freestyle relay of Brown, Winker, Hafele and Prince, 3:49.53.

Port competes in the Glacier Trails Conference Meet in West Bend with diving on Friday, Feb. 6, and swimming the next day.

For Grafton, the North Shore Conference Meet starts with diving on Thursday, Feb. 5, and swimming on Saturday, Feb. 7, both in Whitefish Bay.
