LETTER: Wind and solar essential to meet looming energy plight

Right now, the nation’s grid can barely keep pace with existing demand. Layer on the immense energy appetite of AI technologies, and we should expect more frequent power outages. These blackouts don’t just disrupt business—they often strike during extreme heat of summer or the bitter cold of winter when they can become life-threatening.

     President Donald Trump’s either/or thinking frames the solution as coal-fired, gas-fired or nuclear power plants. But while AI demand will surge quickly, these energy sources take years, if not decades, to come online.

     Meanwhile, proven green energy sources like wind and solar can be deployed far faster and at lower cost. Yet, under this administration, they won’t be built at anything close to the scale the moment demands while we shiver or swelter.
