LETTER: Superb ‘Fiddler’ performance had a message for our times

To Ozaukee Press:

On Sunday, we attended a performance of the musical “Fiddler on the Roof” at the Northern Ozaukee Fine Arts Center in Fredonia, presented by Lakeshore Productions, Inc. The production was first rate, with excellent singing, dancing, costuming and all phases of stage production.

“Fiddler on the Roof” is a story of faith and family in a Jewish community in Russia in 1905. For Lakeshore Productions to pick this show to perform at this time in our country’s history is important. Examples of antisemitism and religious intolerance have made the news headlines in our country almost weekly.

The U.S. Constitution guarantees freedom of religion but also freedom from religion. This indicates there will be no religion that makes and dictates the rules and governance of our country. This guarantee is a blessing for America. With being able to view “Fiddler on the Roof”  last week, audiences were reminded of how important that constitutional right is for Americans.

Thanks you to Lakeshore Productions for staging such a timely, relevant show in 2025. We look forward to viewing their productions for 2026 and years to come.
