Clerk’s husband wins spot on board

Belgium Village Board meetings are going to be a bit of a family affair for the Bartleys after last week’s election.

Andrew Bartley received the most write-in votes and will become a trustee.

Bartley is the husband of Village Clerk Theresa Bartley and works as the foreman in the Town of Cedarburg. They have three children, ages, 22, 19 and 11.

Two incumbents — Rose Sauers and Dan Wolff — won re-election to their seats. Nobody turned in papers to run for the third seat, which was vacated when Trustee Roseann Geib ran unopposed for village president.

The top write-in vote-getter is then given the option to join the board, according to Wisconsin law.

Andrew Bartley received 12 write-in votes and Jacob Fincher got 8 votes, Theresa Bartley said.

“A total of 60 votes came through with multiple people having one vote and a few others having two or three votes,” she said.

It’s the second year in a row an unregistered write-in candidate became a trustee. Last year, Kevin Schueller won a spot for an open seat after Don Gotcher chose not to run and nobody turned in papers to run for the position.

In the School Board election, Sheboygan County updated its vote totals with all three reporting units tallied. Ozaukee County seat winner John Krechel received 871 votes to Reinaldo Cesco’s 234. There were three write-in votes.

Michael Lubbert received 1,157 votes in running unopposed for the Sheboygan County seat.
