Buergbrennen to include food and market
Saturday’s Buergbrennen at Buechler Farms that will create a massive bonfire from wooden pallets will also feature food drinks, and shopping.
Participating eateries include Tots on the Street, Smokin’ C’s BBQ and Sweet Lulu May’s Cupcakes. The Belgium Area Chamber of Commerce will sell Mettwurst and hot dogs. In addition, the Cedar Grove-Belgium High School soccer team will sell hot chocolate and treats. Luxembourg beer and wine will also be sold.
Among the vendors are MB Crafts, Swiss Frau Farm, the Luxembourg American Cultural Society, Simply Midwest and Windy Art Farm.
The event starts at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 1. The burn is at 6 p.m.
The Luxembourg custom calls for villages to gather brush, Christmas trees and the like to create a bonfire and burn away winter. The fire is lit by the most recently married couple in the town, and residents sip mulled wine as they watch.
