Shipwreck sanctuary to meet March 16

The Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council will meet for the first time on Thursday, March 16, even as the group is seeking applications for six vacant alternate seats on the council.

The meeting will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc.

The council will discuss the Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary and the purpose and process of the advisory council.

Public comments will be taken at approximately 7:20 p.m. Anyone who cannot attend but wants to make a comment is asked to send it to jean.prevo@noaa.gov.

Members of the council will provide advice and recommendations to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration regarding the sanctuary management plan and will act as liaisons to community and constituent groups.

NOAA is seeking people to fill alternate seats in the areas of diving/dive clubs/archaeology, kindergarten through 12th grade education, higher education, fishing, history/heritage/public interpretation and recreation.

Applications will be accepted through April 30.
