Port swimmers win three-team meet

The Port Washington High School boys’ swim and dive team won a three-team meet at Kiel on Jan. 10.

Port scored 137 points. Kiel/Elkhart Lake scored 120 and Shawano had 44.

The Pirates had four event wins.

Freshman Charlie Prince won the 100-yard butterfly in a personal-record 56.3 seconds and the 100 breaststroke in 1 minute, 3.33 seconds.

Jack Sickles won the 100 backstroke in 1:03.14, and the 200 medley relay of Sickles, Prince, Finn Ritter and Tim Zeien won in 1:54.09.

On Saturday, the Pirates scored 288 points and finished fifth of seven teams at the Manitowoc Swim Invitational.

Beloit Memorial won with 471 points, followed by Manitowoc Lincoln with 428.

Eight Port entries finished in the top six and earned medals.

Prince won the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.94 and was third in the 100 butterfly in 57.31.

Sickles was third in the 500 freestyle in 5:28.88 and fourth in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.05.

The 200 medley relay team of Sickles, Prince, Ritter and Maksym Kasiyanchuk was fourth in 1:52.73.

The 200 freestyle relay of Zeien, Cory Riel, Ben Falkenberg and Kasiyanchuk was fifth in 1:48.06, and the 400 freestyle relay of Sickles, Riel, Ritter and Prince was fifth in 3:48.92.

Falkenberg was sixth in the 200 freestyle in 2:05.78.

Port hosts West Bend Co-op on Thursday, Jan. 19.

Grafton falls at West Bend

Grafton lost at West Bend Co-op, 113-63, on Jan. 12. The Black Hawks didn’t win an event but had seven second-place finishes: Todd O’Connor, 50-meter freestyle, 25.93; Gabe Salko, 400 freestyle, 4:44.79; Braden Meyer, 100 breaststroke, 1:20.06; Sam Jacoby, 100 backstroke, 1:25.6; the 200 medley relay of Ian Mitchell, Andrew Slagter, Salko and O’Connor, 2:08.74; the 200 freestyle relay of Dawson Memmel, Chase Mueller, Luca Nicoli and Slagter, 1:56.12; and the 400 freestyle relay of Salko, Mueller, Nicoli and O’Connor, 4:13.47.

Grafton hosts Nicolet on Thursday, Jan. 19, and swims at a Nicolet invite the next day.
