Port girls’ tennis team edges West Bend East, loses to West Bend West and Nicolet

The Port Washington High School girls’ tennis team got by West Bend East on Aug. 30, splitting the singles matches but winning at No. 1 and 2 doubles to take the match, 4-3.

At No. 1 singles, Port’s Ally Schueller beat Brooke Koebel, 6-2, 6-0. At No. 2, Pirate Madelina Figarino beat Nass Natalie, 3-6, 7-5, 10-4.

At No. 1 doubles, Port’s Gaby Ortiz and Grace Neitzke beat Sara Doedens and Sommer Dricken, 6-4, 7-5.

At No. 2 doubles, Jennifer Boccio and Alena Schlenvogt beat Mackenzie and Lexi Wollner, 6-4, 7-6 (6).

Abby Doll at No. 3 singles barely lost to East’s Hasti Ghasem Vaghar, 1-6, 6-1, 11-9.

On Sept. 1, West Bend West topped Port, 5-2.

Schuller beat Sophia Neumann, 6-4, 7-6 (3), and the No. 2 doubles team of Boccio and Schlenvogt beat Annaliese Spech and Emily Rauch, 6-2, 6-0.

Nicolet last Thursday beat Port, 7-0. All were straight set matches except for Schueller at No. 1 singles. She lost to Mallory Deluca, 4-6, 6-2, 10-7.

On Aug. 25, Port swept Rufus King at home.

Schueller beat Esther Akinsanya, 6-1, 6-1. Figarino beat Maggie Rorabeck, 6-3, 6-4. Doll beat Aubree Cathey, 6-3, 6-0. At No. 4 singles, Lydia Weyker won via forfeit.

Neitzke and Ortiz beat Yee and Yinkou Xiong, 7-5, 6-3. Boccio and Schlenvogt beat Deva DiAntoni and Lulu Rorabeck, 6-2, 6-2; and at No. 3 doubles Abby Bley and Madelyn Ksioszk beat Jahniyah Curry and Olivia Banks, 6-1, 6-3.

“Everyone played really well,” coach Melonie Zielinski said of the match.

In a quadrangular at Mukwonago on Aug. 22, Port lost to Eau Claire Memorial, 7-0; Mukwonago, 6-1; and Westosha Central, 5-2. Boccio and Schlenvogt won twice on the day, and Neitzke and Ortiz won once.

Port was to host West Bend West on Tuesday, Sept. 13, play at Hartford on Thursday, Sept. 15, at a Cedarburg invite on Saturday, Sept. 17, and at Homestead on Tuesday, Sept. 20.
