YOUR PIX: An odd couple’s wary encounter

If the squirrel munching on birdseed at Nikki Jozwowski’s bird feeder in Saukville wasn’t watching the Cooper’s hawk on the nearby birdbath out of the corner of its eye, he or she was one reckless rodent. The preferred prey of Cooper’s hawks is birds (which explains why they like to hang out near birdfeeders), but they do vary their menu with the occasional small mammal. That didn’t happen while Nikki was watching through a window close to the birdbath, and she was able to take this pretty picture of the pair surrounded by a sunlit display of fall flowers in her yard.
