YOUR PIX: Gentle guest visits woman’s porch

Marti DeMario recently found a morning surprise,a fawn comfortably seated on the mat directly in front of her front door on West Whitefish Road. “She greeted my cat Cinder and me at 6 a.m. as she calmly relaxed on our door mat on the front porch. I learned that her mama must have brought her to this spot or may have even read the sign above her fawn, ‘Life is better on the PORCH… weekends, weekdays, whenever,’” DeMario said. “A patrolling police officer spotted us and stopped as I waved him over seconds after I was considering calling the police. He said the fawn appeared to be about 2 days old as he attempted to pick her up. This spooked her. Her newborn legs stumbled but she made it through the railings of my porch and cowered in the bushes before attempting to reunite with her mother. How that doe got her baby up those three steps of my porch, I’ll never know. Perhaps the camouflage color of my door mat was a temptation for her baby’s safe keeping.”
