YOUR PIX: Bob came to visit and stayed all summer long

The visitor to David and Rachel Haggarty’s yard in Grafton identified himself loudly and clearly with a two-toned whistle that said “bob-white.” Rachel, who took this photo, explained, “This bob white was in our yard all summer this year. Neither my husband nor I had heard one for years, and my Wisconsin bird book doesn’t even contain a picture. Maybe a lost soul? He’s gone now, but we sure hope he returns next summer.” Bob white quail are rare in Wisconsin (usually seen only in the southwest corner of the state), and getting more so as their population shrinks due to diminishing habitat.
