YOUR PIX: Beautiful creatures photographed amid autumn beauty

In mid-October, Cindy Zozak captured the etherel beauty of a monarch butterfly in the bird sanctuary beside Coal Dock Park in Port Washington. Cindy described the butterfly as “enjoying the fall weather before migrating south.” Meanwhile, at about the same time of the year, Greta Schanen came across a two young male deer near the Sauk Creek Nature Preserve and photographed them with antlers wrapped in velvet, the term used to describe the fuzzy layer that appears on the antlers of immature deer at one stage in their development. By now they will have shed the velvet and be flaunting hard, sharp, antlers.
