WIAC cancels fall sports

The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced it will cancel conference seasons and championships for five sports and move two fall sports to spring.

Football, women’s soccer and volleyball and men’s and women’s cross country are canceled. Women’s tennis and golf will compete in spring, the WIAC said in a statement on its website.

For all fall sports, universities may hold practices adhering to NCAA rules.

Nine universities are impacted by the decision: the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, UW-La Crosse, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Platteville, UW-River Falls, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Stout, UW-Superior and UW-Whitewater.

A decision on winter sports seasons will made later.
