Weir starts at QB for EIU

A former Grafton High School all-conference quarterback made his first start in college on Saturday.

Zach Weir, a 2020 grad, now plays football for Eastern Illinois University.

Weir led the Panthers at Austin Peay in Clarksville, Tenn.

He went 26-for-50 passing for 296 yards with one touchdown and four interceptions. He also ran seven times for 17 yards.

The Panthers lost, 42-26.

Weir also saw time at quarterback in three other games this season.

At Grafton, Weir led the Black Hawks to a 7-4 record as a senior. The team reached the second round of the playoffs.

He went 154-for-214 passing (72%) for 2,106 yards with 23 touchdowns and five interceptions. He ran for 167 yards and two scores on 35 carries, and was named to the North Shore Conference second team.

Weir is majoring in marketing.
