It all came together for the Ozaukee High School girls’ basketball team last Friday.

The Warriors knocked off Sheboygan Lutheran on the road, 62-50. The Crusaders were ranked No. 9 in the Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski Sports Girls Basketball Media Poll.

“Sheboygan Lutheran is a strong team. This was probably our best game of the season. We played a complete game on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball,” coach Linda Weyker said.

Sophomore guard Mya Schroeder led the Warriors with 22 points on 5-for-8 shooting. She went 11-for-15 on free throws and had seven rebounds, five assists and five steals.

“Mya did have a strong game and has been playing well this season along with the rest of the team,” Weyker said.

“The biggest reason for success was playing as a team, moving the ball and having everyone in help-side defense.”

Guard Savannah Quade had 17 points and four assists. Freshman Alegra Krenek had 10 points and five rebounds. Sophomore Katelyn Gomez had six points.

“Alegra Krenek and Katelyn Gomez came off the bench and did a great job for us,” Weyker said.

Senior Chloe Dybul had three points and eight rebounds.

The Warriors went 21-for-30 on free throws to the Crusaders’ 9-for-12.

Ozaukee went to 6-5 while Sheboygan Lutheran slipped to 8-3.

The Warriors were to host Kohler on Tuesday, Jan. 13. They host Brookfield Academy on Thursday, Jan. 15, play a Big East South-North crossover game on Friday, Jan. 16, and at Sheboygan Christian on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

CG-B girls win second game of season

Cedar Grove-Belgium kept a team from a much larger school winless last week in beating West Bend West, 48-32.

Arden Getschman had 16 points on 6-for-12 shooting, 10 rebounds and six steals. Gracie Schmidt had 10 points on 4-for-7 shooting and eight steals. Kami Horn had 10 points. Laila Arrowood had five points and five rebounds. Tessa Krause had two points, nine rebounds and three steals.

The Rockets held the Spartans to 12-for-54 shooting (22.2%).

“We came out really strong in our first game back (from break),” coach Nicole Depies said.

“Gracie Schmidt reinjured her ankle and played  limited minutes, but Kami Horn and Arden Getschman stepped up big for us. We got a lot of different kids in the game and had a good team win.”

The Rockets lost to Oconto, 47-43, last Thursday.

“We came out flat and dug ourselves into a hole in the first half,” Depies said. “The girls battled back and showed some great poise in the second half. Arden Getschman really helped propel us offensively. Gracie also had a great game playing with that injury.”

Getschman had 17 points on 6-for-14 shooting and six rebounds. Schmidt had 12 points and six steals.

The Rockets, 2-10, were to host Sheboygan Christian on Tuesday, Jan. 13. They host Kohler on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
