Village won’t seek flood insurance

The Belgium Village Board last month agreed not to seek flood insurance as recommended by the Finance and Personnel Committee.

Flood insurance was eliminated from the village’s policy with Western Group Continental because no other carriers are providing it, Clerk Julie Lesar told the committee in February, citing information from commercial insurance advisor Eric Meinen of Ansay and Associates.

An individual policy, she said, would have to be done on a per-building basis.

The committee unanimously agreed not to look for flood insurance, and Trustee Rose Sauers told the board why on March 13.

“We’re in a low-risk zone, and if we could find coverage it would be at an exorbitant cost,” Sauers said.

The board unanimously agreed to not purchase flood insurance.
