Village vacates land for park on north side
The Fredonia Village Board voted last week to vacate about five acres for a future park on the village’s north side.
The crescent-shaped park would be bounded by Deer Meadow Drive on the east and Emerald Hills Drive on the south and adjacent to the Village Green subdivision proposed by Hillcrest Builders.
Officials don’t expect the park to be developed until the Village Green project is completed.
The board decided to vacate the property after a public hearing on the proposal. It was the second hearing scheduled on vacating the property after an April hearing was unattended by the public due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
An Ozaukee County Circuit Court Judge must approve the vacation.
Village President Don Dohrwardt has suggested that the new park be named after Gene and Vera Emmer, who donated the land for the Northern Ozaukee School District campus.
Some residents had suggested that Freedom Park near the U.S. Post Office be named after the Emmers.
