Village Board approves buying a base station

The Village of Belgium wants to continue to acquire data from residents’ water and sewer meters.

A base station that helps do that is nearing the end of its life cycle.

“It’s what collects the readings, and that’s how we get them electronically,” Treasurer Vickie Boehnlein said. “If that were to go out, we wouldn’t be able to get quarterly readings.”

While replacing the item was discussed during last fall’s budget planning, it got missed in the final version.

The Village Board fixed the issue last month by approving the purchase of a new station for $43,500 from Core and Main of New Berlin.

The water sewer fund has money to buy the item, Boehnlein said.

The purchase did not involve soliciting multiple bids.

“It has to come from the company that provides the service we use for reading the meters,” Boehnlein said.
