Undermanned GFD deserves support rather than criticism

To Ozaukee Press:

I was surprised to read that some people in the Town and Village of Grafton are complaining about the Grafton Fire Department.

It should be noted that the volunteer department is very undermanned, as people just are not coming forward to volunteer. Several of the members hold full-time firefighting jobs with other communities, and when their shift is done go home to Grafton to answer the bell when called upon.

These volunteers are very underpaid, train many hours each month and are ready to save lives and property. The department asked for three full-time employees in the last budget; it got one and only for a half year.

Instead of complaining, the people of the village and town need to get behind the volunteer department.
