Two members of Port family earn degrees

Two members of a Port Washington family earned advanced degrees this spring.

Chase Orvis, who graduated from Port Washington High School in 2020, earned his master of aerospace engineering degree from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor on May 2.

He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Chase has accepted a position with Boeing in its Defense, Space and Security Unit.

Alyssa Orvis  who graduated from Port High in 2018 and UW-Madison in 2022, earned her juris doctor from the American University Washington College of Law on May 16.

She focused on international human rights law, international humanitarian law and accountability for atrocity crimes.  Her independent research project analyzed international accountability for conflict-related sexual violence, particularly in the occupied territories of Ukraine.

During law school Orvis worked with the Center for Civil Liberties, humanus and Legal Action Worldwide, supporting human rights documentation and efforts to advance justice for victims of international crimes.

She will be moving to Geneva, Switzerland, to pursue a master of laws degree in international crimes, justice and human rights at the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights.

Their parents are Steve and Sue Orvis.
