Town to pay 2% more for Waubeka Fire Department service
The Waubeka Fire Department’s proposed 2020 budget includes a 2% increase in its contract with the Town of Fredonia from 2019.
The town will pay $117,482 to the department for fire protection in 2020, compared to $114,999 paid this year.
The $250,830 budget also includes the first payment by the town of $78,542 on a new pumper-tanker truck for the department.
In November, the Town Board voted to borrow the money to replace a 30-year-old truck.
The Wisconsin Board of Commissioners of Public Lands approved a State Trust Fund loan to the town for $658,312 for the purchase of the truck at an interest rate of 4.75%.
The town will make an annual payment of about $79,000 on the loan over the next 10 years.
Waubeka Fire Chief Jason Caswell told town supervisors last week that the department will take possession of the truck by the end of November or early December.
The truck is being built in Appleton by Pierce Manufacturing. Department officials can track the truck’s assembly online, Caswell said.
Also in the budget, the Town of Saukville will pay the Waubeka department $11,851 for fire protection services to a portion of the town as a subcontractor of the Newburg Fire Department, which is the town’s primary fire service.
In turn, the Waubeka department will pay $9,938 to the Village of Fredonia and Random Lake fire departments for fire protection in outlying areas of the town.
The department projects ambulance receipts of $28,852, slightly more than expected emergency medical service costs of $28,844. The department also expects to receive $5,316 from the state EMS Funding Assistance Program.
Other department expenses include $46,105 for fire service operations such as fuel, maintenance, training and professional dues, and $42,800 for “plant operations,” which includes insurance, office expenses, building and grounds maintenance and other costs.
