Four Cedar Grove-Belgium High School wrestlers won titles at the Division 3 Random Lake Regional last Saturday and six more took second to qualify 10 Rockets for the sectional meet and a chance at a trip to state.

The host Rams, the Rockets’ rival that often gets the best of them, edged the Rockets, 266.5 to 238.5, in the six-team regional to advance to the team sectional.

“I thought that it was definitely in reach with them. We lost a couple of key matches that we probably could have won,” coach Trevor Peterson said.

Rocket champs included Cael Erickson at 132 pounds, Sawyer DeRuyter at 160, Aaron Duenk at 182 and Markus Ramirez at 195.

Erickson (40-2) pinned Landon Knez (7-19) of Oostburg in one minute, seven seconds, and in the finals won by injury default over Tristan Hammen (32-10) of Random Lake.

DeRuyter (32-11) pinned Caulodrino Williams (8-9) of St. Lawrence Seminary in 5:12 and in the final pinned Jay De Blaey (8-3) of Oostburg in 3:42.

Duenk (33-8) pinned David Meza (3-7) of St. Lawrence Seminary in 1:53 and in the final won a 2-1 decision over Brock Upson (33-8) of Random Lake. Upson beat Duenk in a dual meet earlier in the season.

“Aaron Duenk beating Brock was a nice win,” Peterson said.

Ramirez (33-9) pinned Logan Bruggink (11-7) of Oostburg in 3:01 in his only match.

Those taking second included Mason Hoopman (28-13) at 106 pounds, Jesse Burg (34-8) at 113, Winston Reichle (29-10) at 120, Jonah Morales (12-20) at 145, Dylan Teunissen (30-13) at 152 and Diego Morales (18-12) at 285.

Jackson DeRuyter (14-15) at 126 pounds took third place.

For Ozaukee, Cael Large (27-4) won the 126-pound weight class. He pinned Skylar Koch (1-5) of Random Lake in 4:00 and in the finals beat Will Theune (15-14) of Oostburg in a 21-5 technical fall.

Ozaukee’s other three wrestlers, Philip McLarty at 113 pounds, Jaysen Delleree at 138 and Zach Bell at 285 each took third.

Large and the 10 Rockets wrestle Saturday in the Dodgeland sectional meet. The top three finishers earn a trip to state.
