Three songwriters to perform on Feb. 20

Singer-songwriters Katie Dahl, R.J. Cowdery and Hope Dunbar will perform a concert at Unitarian Church North in Mequon at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20.

Dahl is an internationally touring, radio-charting artist who dives deep into questions of land and love, family and body image, grief and joy in her music.

She is also a musical playwright whose latest musical, “The Fisherman’s Daughters,” tells the story of two sisters who in 1908 fight the State of Wisconsin’s efforts to take their rural homestead via eminent domain to make a state park. “Victory Farm” is a fictionalized account of the real-life German POWs who came to Wisconsin to pick cherries during World War II. Both plays were made into live cast recordings.

Dahl is currently writing three more musicals.

Cowdery’s songs are designed to help pull people through unsettling times and personal troubles, providing a sweet and friendly voice.

Dunbar is known for a blend of Americana and country-folk sounds. Hailing from Utica, Neb., she is a pioneer of what she calls New American prairie style” with semi-autobiographical songs that transform everyday life into art.

She has opened for national artists and has been a part of shows with Asbury Park musicians. She also co-hosts a weekly podcast, “Prompt Queens,” where she and her sister-in-law write a new song each week based on a specific prompt.

Concessions will be available.

Tickets are $25 in advance or $29 at the door, with a $1 per food item donated discount to a maximum $4 given at the door. Student tickets are $12.

Tickets to the concert may be purchased at North Shore Bank in Grafton and Mequon and Vines to Cellar in Port Washington, and online at wsss.org.
